I Want to Keep this Site Current, Honestly

I’ve had so many different websites over the years from portfolios, blogs, band websites, etc. All of them start out with a bang, jam-packed with fresh content, but quickly become stale before I totally abandon it for real life. This almost happened again, but I’m hoping to catch it before it dies on the table. Hoping to have new work up soon.

New Year’s Eve 2010; our first in New York. No way were we going to try and traverse Manhattan, so we stayed in our hood of Park Slope. We missed our friends dearly, as well as our traditional 70′s dance-party. Decided to go to the Rock Shop and caught the “Drunkest Guns n’ Roses Tribute band ever”. It was pretty great.

New Work Added!

I hadn’t updated the portfolio section for some time, so I decided to take a few moments and add some new work. As I am currently in the job hunt in NYC I wanted to add a few interactive pieces (as I’m an Interactive Art Director) and explain a little about them. My hopes is that a fantastic agency will see the range of my work and start sending piles of cash to my bank account… well, anyway, moving along.

Added, are new HTML email projects, a Flash microsite (this piece won a few awards), as well as street light banner concepts that I felt were very effective in communication using simplicity and proportion.

I plan on adding a few more new pieces yet this week, as well as updating the current campaign entries to add more depth to the projects.

In creating the “I am UCM Confident” campaign, there were a number of elements initially created that showed promise, but were not used in the final campaign. I don’t feel like these should be hidden from view, but shown here with some background info. Maybe I can provide insight on why they weren’t chosen, and outline some of the steps in creating a campaign. I look forward to your comments.

Facelift

After designing the new identity package for myself, I decided that there was too much of a disconnect from my personal printed pieces to my online presence. It’s not necessary to totally follow the letterhead and business card out the window, but tightening up the look overall will definitely help cohesion between mediums.

There are some new features to the site, but I’m striving to keep it simple.

I’ve added tags to all posts, so as the site grows, article relationships will [hopefully] become apparent.
Project images are larger [I will re-shoot some/much of the work, but this will be sufficient in the immediate future].
Simplified the page structure, code and CSS.

There will be bugs to fix, new features to add, and some basic streamlining to do, but please, bang around on this thing and send me a note, or leave a comment if you come across any issues [which is highly likely].

I hope you like the cleaner update, I’m interested to hear your thoughts.

CASE Award

Just received word on an award from CASE (The Council for Advancement and Support of Education). This competition had entries from all over the world, so it was great to win something internationally. The piece was a print ad which is one element of a multi-channel campaign I’m developing. I designed the first ad in the series as well as outlining the stylistic rules and elements for all subsequent ads. I am currently art directing all of the campaign pieces.

Two EMA Awards

I had forgotten that I entered a few print pieces from a new positioning campaign I’ve been developing with some coworkers. The Education Marketing Awards (formerly Admissions Marketing Report) mailed out the notifications earlier this week. Nice surprise; it was framed too. I’ll add a few photos of the winning pieces to this post and in the portfolio in the next few days.

One of the awards was a print ad which is part of a campaign we’re building; the other was an online magazine (UCM Today) I designed and developed. Hoping to submit more work soon.

My little buddy turns twelve today. Even though he’s getting up there, he still has a lot of pep, especially around dinner time… or breakfast time… or lunch. On the agenda today: Nice walk around the lake, peanut butter filled Kong, a few naps, vegetables and broth.
